July 2019 Committee Update
City Holds Official Grand Opening and Christening Ceremony for the Atlantic Boulevard Bridge Improvements
On June 26, city officials held a celebratory grand opening of the Atlantic Boulevard bridge (see accompanying photo). Everyone in attendance was able to walk along the new bridge promenade and view the outstanding artwork by artist Dennis Friel, who was on hand signing complimentary art replicas. Guests also enjoyed live music and refreshments from local establishments.
In addition to the new promenade, the bridge now includes two large tensioned sails at either end; the sails are connected to a computer-operated lighting system that allows the sails to change colors for special occasions. These sails continue the iconic theme of the illuminated sails gracing the city’s Beach Parking Garage. It’s also great to see that our city met the expected completion date of late June, which we wrote about in our April update.
If you haven’t yet enjoyed the new promenade, take a few moments to do so. It’s a lovely, relaxing spot to enjoy our city.
Throughout the month, there are many different artistic and cultural events happening around Pompano Beach. Check out the city’s “Events” page for more information on the many opportunities to incorporate more art and culture into your life.
The City of Pompano Beach is Providing a Free App to Help You Save Water
The City of Pompano Beach is now providing residential water customers with a free water portal, Dropcountr. According to the city, “The Dropcountr app will help residents keep track of their real-time water use, avoid leaks and water damage, connect with utility alerts and receive direct customer support. Not to mention, Dropcountr users reduce their water consumption by 7-9%, on average, leading to significant water and wallet savings!” For more information, visit the city’s website at http://pompanobeachfl.gov/.
